Over the centuries, Granary Island has undergone many changes.

During the Hanseatic period, Gdańsk became an important trading centre, and the granaries on the island played a key role in storing and distributing goods. In later years, as a result of various historical events, Granary Island was destroyed and rebuilt. In the post-war period, this part of Gdańsk underwent various transformations, and the historic granaries remained neglected.

It was in this context that the Granaria project was born. In the 1990s, Gdańsk decided to revitalize Granary Island to restore its former glory and vitality. It was within this project that the idea of Granaria was born.
